Barloworld CEO Clive Thomson expects that the South African government’s drive to boost infrastructure ahead of the 2010 World Cup will continue to drive demand. Angola is also expanding public works and Barloworld has earmarked this country as a growth region.

To mark National Youth Month, Barloworld has made a generous donation of R95,000 to The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment which operates on a national basis in prisons, community youth groups, residential youth facilities as well as in schools.  This donation is over and above the significant in-kind support that the organisation receives from the company.  “This is in support of the excellent work of The President’s Award with young people from a diversity of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds” say Jennifer Smith, the Head of Corporate Social Investment at Barloworld.

In 2008, as in previous years, AEL provided training for the National Certificate in Chemical Operations for both employed and unemployed learners. These groups were trained on levels 1 and 2 of the qualification in the manufacturing sector. Selected operators also attended NTC 2 and 3 courses via Ekurhuleni West College.
