Barloworld announces R2.4bn BEE deal

Barloworld has announced a R2.4 billion black ownership deal which will see 10% of the international industrial brand’s shares being distributed to a broad-based grouping of beneficiaries. The deal will result in Barloworld South Africa achieving black ownership of 28.99%.

Nashua Mobile donates R25K

Nashua Mobile Social Committee members recently handed over a R25,000 cheque to IkamvaYouth to help the project realise its goals during the year that lies ahead. IkamvaYouth is a non-profit organisation that focuses on the empowerment of youth through education, e-literacy training and career guidance.

Absa wants to help the state to uplift poor

ABSA , SA’s largest retail bank, yesterday said it planned to play a more “relevant” role in ensuring it complemented the government’s efforts to uplift the poor, and would continue to allocate at least 1% of its headline earnings to social investment programmes.

R9 million investment for Wits Engineering students

As part of its commitment to improving engineering standards in South Africa, Anglo American has made a substantial social investment of R9 million in the University of the Witwatersrand’s Chamber of Mines 4th Quadrant Engineering Building Project, part of the Wits Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. The investment is in line with Anglo American’s longstanding support of the Wits University, and a focus on the development of education in South Africa.

WVU business students take skills to Africa to help NGO’s

May 5, 2010 · A West Virginia University business professor and four students want to use their business skills to help people suffering with HIV and AIDS in Africa. The group recently traveled to South Africa to work with nonprofits that serve people affected by the AIDS pandemic.
